According to dictionary.com (n.d), cultural literacy is the ability to understand and function within other cultures, "Definition: knowledge of history, contributions, and perspectives of different cultural groups, including one's own group, necessary for understanding of reading, writing, and other media" (para. 1).

Our world grows more global everyday. Diversity is found in our neighborhoods, our schools, the workplace, and often even in our homes. Cultural literate individuals have the ability to be successful in a variety of environments because they understand and appreciate the differences. They understand the that it is the individual differences that have the ability to make the whole stronger.
